Family Literacy Day
Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities. The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team has prepared a variety of information and activities to help families engage in meaningful learning at home and at school. Reading together or doing learning activities at home is crucial to a child’s learning and development.
Here’s how families can participate:
- CBE At-home activities and resources : Find ways to make learning fun and impactful.
- Calgary Public Library Family Reading Pick: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, featuring a family reading adventure with a live performance and themed activities.
- Family Literacy Day at-home activities and resources : Engage in other literacy-related activities as a family
Valentine’s Day 2026
We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day at school on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. If students wish to write Valentine wishes or cards to their classmates, that is a very thoughtful and welcome gesture. Please note that our classrooms are Allergy Aware, and in alignment with the CBE Healthy Eating policy, we ask that families do not send whole class treats or food items. These can be disruptive to the learning environment and may pose safety concerns for some students.
If students would like to include a small gift with their Valentine, it must be non-food related. Examples of appropriate items include:
- pencils
- erasers
- stickers or fake tattoos
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our classroom safe, inclusive, and focused on learning. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a fun day that is filled with kindness.
Trickster Theatre – What You Need to Know!
We are excited to share more information about our Trickster Theatre Residency and Performance on Friday, February 20, 2026. We wanted to share what we know so far to help with your own planning.
What you need to know:
- There will be two performances:
- 12:30pm - Kindergarten–Grade 3 (Door open at 12:20pm)
- 1:30pm - Grades 4–6 (Doors open at 1:20pm)
- Families with children in multiple grade groupings are welcome to stay for both performances.
- We kindly ask that if your child(ren) are performing in one show only, you vacate the gym following that performance to allow space for families attending the second show.
Logistics:
- Dismissal on this day will be approximately 2:00–2:15 p.m. (to be confirmed closer to the date).
- Students will remain at school for lunch, and our lunchroom supervisors will be on duty.
- Kindergarten students not enrolled in Sunalta Student Care will attend school for the performance time only.
Seating & filming:
- We respectfully ask families to limit seating to two seats per family during the performances, as we cannot accommodate additional family members.
- We have requested that Trickster Theatre professionally film the entire production, which will allow families to share the experience with extended family and friends.
- Please watch for additional paperwork related to student filming permissions, which will be sent home in the coming weeks.
More details will be shared as plans are finalized. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to make this a wonderful experience for all.
