Calling the Absence Line
Just a friendly reminder to please make sure you call the absence line when your child is going to be away for the day. Please speak clearly when leaving a message and include the following:
- Childs name in full – for example, Hilary Wright
- Childs teacher and grade– for example, Mr. Mitchell, grade 1
- Reason for the absence – for example, sick
An example would be, “Hilary Wright in Mr. Mitchell’s grade 1 class is going to be away today. She is sick.”

School Photo Day
We have re-scheduled our Lifetouch Photo Day for November 19th, this will be for individual and class pictures too. The retakes will be on December 10th. Don’t forget your bright smiles and brush your hair!
Learning Conferences:
Learning Conferences are an opportunity to connect with your child’s classroom teacher and discuss their academic progress so far this school year. Grade 1–6 families can book their conferences through the MyCBE app. Conference bookings will open on Thursday, November 20 at 10:00am.
Conferences will take place on:
- Thursday, November 27 from 4:00–8:00pm
- Friday, November 28 from 8:30am–12:30pm
Kindergarten families: one-to-one conferences with Ms. Kangles were held at the end of September prior to the teacher's job action, so Kindergarten will not participate in conferences this round. Once Ms. Kangles returns from her leave, we will connect with kindergarten families for next steps.
Winter Solstice Evening – December 4
We are excited to welcome our school community to our first annual Winter Solstice Evening, a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the winter season. Join us for a cozy and festive evening featuring:
- Hot Chocolate Station
- Grade 6 Bake Sale
- Musical Performances by Kindergarten to Grade 3
- Student and Staff Buskers throughout the school
- Classroom Activities to explore and enjoy
- The Giving Tree – our annual gift card donation event supporting families in need
We look forward to seeing you there for an evening of warmth, music, and community spirit!
The Giving Tree
This year, our school is once again hoping to support families who may need a little extra help during the Holiday Season. Instead of signing up for individual families, we will be collecting gift cards.
If you would like to give back to our school community, simply purchase a gift card—any amount is appreciated. Grocery stores, gas stations, coffee shops, toy stores, or any other thoughtful option are all welcome.
Please send gift cards to the school office during the first few weeks of December. In return, your child will be given an ornament to hang on The Giving Tree. By the end of December, we hope to see the tree full of ornaments and our hearts full of Holiday Spirit.
Collected gift cards will be shared with Sunalta families who may benefit from a little extra support this winter.

School Council – Change of Date
Please note we have changed the date for the November School Council Date. It is now going to be on Tuesday, November 25 at 6:30-7:30pm. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see some new faces join us.
Direct Donation Campaign!
Please donate to Sunalta School’s Direct Donation Campaign! Direct donation is the primary source of funds to provide enrichment, supplies, and unique experiences for all of our students. Use this fundraising page to submit your donation. Tax receipts will be issued by Education Matters for donations over $20.
If your employer offers donation matching through a platform such as Benevity, you can use that to double your donation amount! Select “Sunalta School Parent Society” from the drop-down menu.
