Green Team Environmental Assembly
Our Grade 2’s proudly hosted the Earth Day assembly Tuesday afternoon. They shared their learning about the 5 Rs to minimize waste and promote the environment. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle. This approach prioritizes reducing waste creation before moving on to less impactful strategies like repurposing and recycling. There was also a hip hop rap song with ‘cool’ kids sharing how to Pick it up, Put it back, Switch it up, Swap it out. At the end the entire school sang a farewell song to Mrs. McCrory with a percussive solo cup performance by our grade 3 students.
Think-a-thon
Students completed their fun ‘quizzes’ on Thursday using the computers. Everyone was very successful and school council provided a freezie to each contestant. Donations sunaltaschool.ca and pledges are still being accepted online and in person. Thank you to students and families for your support in raising some money for our school initiatives!
Vincent Massey Band Concert
Vincent Massey Band performed for our grade 5 and 6 students on Thursday at Alex Ferguson School. We were inspired by the student’s musicianship and their exciting band teacher. One of our grade 6 students came and played with the band. We hope our grade 6 students will consider joining band in grade 7 – it is a lot of fun!
Dean Stanton Visit
Artist Dean Stanton dropped by Sunalta School to chat with some classes about the big, beautiful mural on the side of Sunalta School. He explained the process for his first creation in 1994 and the work completed by staff and Dean in 2015. Dean often commissions pieces for families and has drawn 3 pictures for the grade 3 students to paint. He inspires us with his knowledge and passion for being an artist.
Staffing Updates
Congratulations to Ms. Laurie Haydu, library assistant on her new opportunity to join Mrs. McCrory at Windsor Park School. Her work with scholastic book fair, reading and celebrating literature with students, ordering requested books for Sunalta shelves, and being an incredibly kind staff member will be missed! As well, Ms. Irwin is now on a leave. Staffing for her absence has not been determined as of yet.
