Partial Solar Eclipse

On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary and visible from 11:50-2pm. This is a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner. All grade 1-6 students attending on Monday will remain at school during the lunch break unless families have notified the office. Please send a lunch with your child. We will not have students involved in outdoor activities during this time. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Kindergarten families will have an email sent out today reviewing the procedure for Monday.

PADS Service Dog Fundraiser

Our grade 1 students in Mr Mitchell and Mrs Eakins class raised $1458 to support the training of some very special service dogs. Thank you to our school community for donating books to make our book sale such a success!

MRU Math Contest

Grade 5 and 6 students have signed up to be part of our math club in preparation for a math contest through Mount Royal University. Over 50 students are practicing during the lunch hour with Ms Dragatis and Ms Gulewicz. We have a lot of math whizzes at Sunalta!

Staff Lunch at Conferences

Thanks and gratitude to our Sunalta Council for providing our staff with delicious meals during conferences in March.

Teachers Pet

Grade 2 students had a fabulous science workshop provided by Teachers Pet to explore hands-on activities about landforms and bodies of water. Thanks to Sunalta Fundraising Society for funding this excellent opportunity and to our 9 volunteers for spending time supporting our grade 2s.

Youthlink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre

Our grade 6 students travelled to the police centre to view the exhibits and take part in hands-on activities at this interpretive museum. Students shared that they learned about cyber-safety, stories of exhibits highlighting major criminal cases within Calgary’s history. The artifact collection about 100 years of policing was fascinating. This experience also was in conjunction with our Grade 6 Science unit on Evidence and Investigation. Students were required to put their skills to use to solve a crime based on a true event. Thank you to our volunteers as well as School Fundraising for supporting this experience. This is open to the public if families would like to visit. It is admission by donation. https://youthlinkcalgary.com/

Calgary Youth Science Fair

Good luck to our 5 Science Fair projects that will be adjudicated next week at the city science fair! We are excited to see if these budding scientists can bring back to Sunalta School any awards!

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is our primary communication tool for families. Teachers consistently post updates regarding learning and special events in your child’s Google Classroom. Please check it regularly to ensure you are informed about what is happening at school. Thank you!
