Winter Concert

Sunalta shared a spectacular holiday concert with our community this week. Grades 1, 2, and 3 presented ‘The Animals’ Christmas Tree’, a musical by Andy Beck and Brian Fisher. 150 voices created a beautiful holiday ambience with narrators, soloists, chorus, and our tech team working together. Thanks and gratitude to Ms Lindsay for designing and sewing the incredible animal costumes, Ms. Irwin for conducting and directing the show, teachers and staff for assisting, all students for providing artwork for the walls, and families for all of their support. A Music Education program is a necessity for every public school to allow all voices to shine and experience the art of playing, singing, dancing, and creating through music. What would a presentation or assembly be without music? Sunalta is proud of our music program and thank school council for their generosity in funding the instruments and music.

Mustard Seed Charity

Sunalta School annually fundraises for the ‘Fill a Sock’ campaign as part of the Mustard Seed campaign. This provides woolen socks for filled with personal necessities for those experiencing vulnerable Calgarians. Students and staff using impactful gestures of compassion and building understanding through empathy is important for all of us to embrace. https://theseed.ca/

School Spirit Next Week

Students are looking forward to next week and some school spirit. Our Leadership Club has organized a daily theme for students to partake in (optional). There will be carolling in the gym on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Monday is red and white day.

Lates and Attendance

There has been an increase of students coming to school after 8:40am. We know there can be days with inclement weather and it may be more difficult to arrive on time. The Calgary Board of Education recognizes the strong positive correlation between attendance and a student’s success in school. Regular attendance sets students on the path to reaching their full potential. At CBE we use a whole school approach to attendance to strategically allocate our resources and create a positive culture where students feel a sense of belonging.

  • By grade 3, students with chronic absenteeism are less likely to read at grade level
  • By grade 6, chronic absenteeism puts student at risk of not completing high school
  • By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores

Art Cards and Bake Sale

A huge thank you to our grade 6 grad committee and to our Sunalta community for supporting their fundraising efforts this season be it by buying Art Cards or sending $ to school for the bake sale. We could not have raised a penny without you! Everyone is proud of the grade 6 students and their families in terms of rolling up their sleeves Friday in service and in stunning treat contributions! A heartwarming example of engagement and community and we were so pleased to be part of that magic and for the opportunity for the grade 6's to show their eagerness for leadership and responsibility in their community. All art card products were sent home on Thursday afternoon.
