Feb. 12-16 | Kindness, Happy New Year, Gymnastics, Choir, Volunteers Needed
Kindness is Contagious
Today we had many heartwarming moments that reflected Sunalta’s commitment to creating a place where everyone feels they belong. Our grade 1 students presented an inspirational assembly about love and kindness. Beginning with a message about loving who is most important…YOURSELF and then a video entitled The Reflection of Me, Sunalta was treated to a calm, caring experience. Every grade 1 student had the opportunity to speak and share the message of caring for one another. These students have also been doing tasks and chores at home to raise money for PADS, a program that trains service dogs. As an extra surprise, 5 of the PADS dogs and their handlers came on stage and demonstrated how they would support someone with a disability! Thank you to our teachers, Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Eakins, for preparing the students, as well as our Tech Team and over 60 family members that came to watch our young leaders. Over the next few weeks we will be collecting books for a school-wide book sale. If you have books to donate, please deliver them to the school. All proceeds will go to PADS.
Happy New Year!
Many of our students at Sunalta will be celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend. Ms Macaulay’s class created a dragon dance that they performed throughout the school. Several classrooms had beautiful art activities and some of our students were dressed in beautiful traditional clothing. May the Year of the Dragon be filled with an abundance of smiles and laughter. Happy New Year!
Gymnastics
Our gym has been set up for the gymnastics unit, which will take place from February 12-28. Please remember to send hairbands for students with long hair.
Choir!
Mrs Irwin and Mrs McCrory have some exciting songs prepared and are looking for students interested in choir! This will be a performance opportunity for students in grades 3-6 – Thursday mornings 8-8:40am. A notice will be sent out on Monday for interested students.
Volunteers Needed!
Grade 5 and 6 Sunalta scientists are busy preparing for our Science Fair. We are looking for judges that would be able to review presentations on February 21 and 22. There will be a sign up next week for available adjudicators.
Criteria and ‘how to judge’ information will be provided by Mr Masuch. Several projects will then be entered to represent Sunalta at the Calgary Science Fair.
If you have not signed up to be a volunteer, a new process will make it easier. Parents and guardians will be able to register to volunteer online in the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account.
