Our students did a beautiful job recognizing Remembrance Day this week. Thank you to the Grade 6 students who led our assembly, providing us with meaningful opportunities to acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and our commitment to peace. A special thank you to Mr. Clarke for leading our Grade 6 choir in reflective song and Ms. McCrory for sharing her musical gifts leading our handbell choir.
A thank you to Parent Council for hosting the virtual cyber safety lesson from the Youthlink Program, which is part of the Calgary Police Service. We all benefit from learning how to equip our students with knowledge to make good online choices.
Our staff engaged in meaningful professional learning during our non-instructional day this Friday. We are committed to acknowledging and responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action. On Sept. 1, 2022, Piikani Elder Leonard Bastien gifted our day of learning with the Blackfoot name Maatoomsii'Pookaiks (MAAH-DOOM-SEE-BOO-GAAKS), which translates to putting children first. Our Maatoomsii'Pookaiks work focused, this year, on the Mind Domain - To Know. In addition to rich discussion, we enjoyed some homemade Bannock and Saskatoon berries!
As always, keep up to date with all the amazing activities happening at Sunalta by following along with us on Instagram at @cbesunalta and our Parent Council @sunaltaschool.ca.
Looking forward to the upcoming week!
Fall Break
We hope your families enjoy wonderful memories together during our Fall Break. We look forward to welcoming students back on Thursday November 14.
Ongoing Student Assessment
As part of our commitment to provide ongoing and timely communication regarding student learning, teachers will be publishing summative assessment marks for learning outcomes completed in all core subject areas throughout the year in PowerSchool. You can find current assessment information for your child(ren) on your MyCBE account. You can find step-by-step information on the CBE website.
These summative assessment tasks are intended to provide an additional snapshot into student learning, and only represent snapshot of your child’s learning in relation to the curriculum. These published assessments are intended to be considered in conjunction with other forms of communication, such as interviews and report cards, to provide a holistic understanding of each student’s strengths and areas of growth.
Extra Curriculars
Thank you to parent council for organizing both after school art classes through Vania Art and after school yoga programs through Fledge available for our Grade 1-6 students throughout the months of November & December. Please check out the parent council package sent home for details on how to register
Winter Gear
Should your child require any winter gear, such as snow pants, jackets, or boots to keep them toasty and warm during the winter months, please email Assistant Principal Elaine Hordo at kehordo@cbe.ab.ca and she would be happy to help your child find cozy gear for playing in the snow this winter.
