Bullying Prevention Week November 18 – 22
On November 18-22, the Calgary Board of Education recognizes National Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. During this week and throughout the school year, CBE staff and students collaborate to learn about, promote and implement bullying prevention strategies in an effort to maintain school spaces that are safe, inclusive and where students feel as though they belong. Together, staff, students, parents, caregivers and the community all have a role to play in ensuring our schools are safe.

Dress for Colder Weather
Students will be outside several time every day. Please ensure they have warm clothes, boots, mitts, and hats so they can enjoy their outdoor activities and have their names in their clothing. Our lost and found will be on display at conferences – it is overflowing with lost items.
Welcome New Staff Member
Sunalta School welcomes Ms. McKenna Gibb. Ms. Gibb will be an additional part-time teacher supporting literacy and numeracy. We also welcome Maddie Curtis from the Werkland School of Education. Ms. Curtis is doing her pre-service practicum experience at Sunalta School in Grade 4 Room 4.
Traffic Concerns
Families have been reaching out to the office to express their concerns about student drop offs. It is important that our students and school patrollers are safe and drivers are following traffic rules. Please consider dropping off child(ren) at the bottom of the school hill. Drop offs in the crosswalk, in the middle of the street, in the no-stopping areas, parking lot, and making u-turns is unsafe and dangerous. Families are encouraged to contact 311 if they have concerns and the City of Calgary will be able to support traffic safety. Traffic service requests
Parent-Teacher Conferences November 28 and 29 (In-Person)
Student Learning Conferences are an opportunity for you to see your child's progress in relation to the Curricular or Program of Study outcomes at this time in the school year. During the meeting, you will see some of your child's learning evidence and be able to ask questions to your child's teacher. Ms. Irwin will be available for conferences so you can learn more about how your child is doing in music. Conference Booking will be available starting Thursday November 21 at 3:00pm. Please log into your MyCBE account to book a conference time. For families requiring an interpreter, teachers will be able to access an interpreter on-demand through the language call line.
With student learning conferences just around the corner, many parents ask how they can help their child at home with their literacy and numeracy skills. There are many ways for you to support your child at home and stay connected to their learning. For example:
- Help them to build a solid foundation in their first language by emphasizing the importance of oral communication
- Read books together that come home from our Sunalta library
- Play card games and board games with your child(ren)
- Take an interest in their learning and review their Google Classroom information
- Provide the routines and structures they need to build healthy habits for lifelong learning
- Alberta Education offers resources for parents including e-tutoring, Student Learning Hub (resources to support student growth and learning. Find links for educational materials to develop literacy and numeracy, along with health and wellness information)
If you are looking for more ways to support your child in their learning, please ask your child’s teacher at conferences.
