Dear Sunalta School families,
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that I have accepted the position of principal at Windsor Park School, a setting that will be changing to a K-3, in-person community school in fall 2025.
Sunalta is a historic school with deep connections to the community of Calgary. Serving the students, staff and families for over six years has been an exceptional opportunity of pride and growth for me as an instructional leader. Watching Sunalta students learn both academically and as kind and caring humans has been rewarding, with many memories of laughter and awe for their abilities and success. Student engagement and leadership, never-ending parental support, and exceptional staff are what make Sunalta special.
My heart, as always, is full of gratitude and respect for the work done in this old, but cherished, building. The commitment to a truly magical school culture where everyone has a sense of belonging and contributing to the learning is noticeable and unique to our setting. All of us at Sunalta respect one another, demonstrating kindness and care, embracing challenges and change, and this is what makes this particular public, community school shine inside and out. Every day I have felt grateful to work with a dedicated, innovative staff, engaged students eager to learn and grow and parents that want their students to have exceptional experiences. I appreciate the trust, support and wisdom you have shown me throughout my time at Sunalta.
I recognize there will be questions regarding the leadership transition for Sunalta School. I will remain as principal at Sunalta until April 30, 2025. Our Education Director David Dyck will be communicating the process for hiring a new principal with you after spring break. Similar to when I came to Sunalta as principal, you will have an opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions as to what you value in a principal and what is important to you in school culture as part of this process.
It is difficult to say goodbye, however, I know that Sunalta will continue to be an amazing school with the love from such a remarkable community, As I begin the transition, I leave with the confidence that Sunalta will continue to flourish in the hands of such a remarkable community.
Thank you for being part of my leadership journey.
With warmest regards,
Christine McCrory
Principal
