Oki, Danit'ada, Âba wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello.
In remembrance of the children and survivors of the residential schools, CBE understands the importance of this journey toward healing, understanding and unity, not just as a public school district but as educators, staff and community members. Our system continues to learn, grow, understand, and honour Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing.
September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is intended to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action No. 80.
Within CBE’s Education Plan, we have committed to “acknowledge and support the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.”
With the observation of Treaty 7 week, Sunalta students engaged in many activities to demonstrate their respect and gain knowledge with regards to indigenous Ways of Knowing. Students took time to wander through parks and pause to journal, draw, listen and feel the fall changes. A beautiful book walk beginning in the east and finishing in the west was created on our fence.
Thank you to families that were able to join us on Thursday as part of our annual open house/meet the teacher event. Students were excited to share their classroom and teachers shared presentations to explain the routines and expectations for the year. Building an inclusive community is a focus for the year and the sense of belonging is blossoming throughout the building. School (parent) council has initiated their annual fundraising campaign to provide support for field trips and school enhancements. All parents are automatically part of school council and are welcome to join our meeting on October 15 at 6:30pm. If you have any questions, please feel free to email our council chair, Stacey Selley, at sunaltachair@gmail.com Each classroom has a What’s App code which is intended to share information and upcoming events with parents. Check out Sunalta School website for more information.
The 56th Annual Calgary Firefighter’s Toy Association Christmas Party taking place December 22, 2024, from 8:40am-4:00pm, at the Telus Convention Centre. This is intended for families requiring some extra support in December. Children and parent (s) spend 60-90 minutes at the event to enjoy all the fun, activities, food, and entertainment on offer. If you would like to be referred, please contact Mrs. McCrory at cnmccrory@cbe.ab.ca
There are upcoming field trips for most grades and we need volunteers. Please come to the office during school hours if you have not initiated your police clearance and are able to assist.
Thank you so much to all the families who have already paid your school fees online. There are still some families who need to go to their MyCBE account, scroll to fees and pay the school based field trip fees. Please pay these fees before Oct 15, 2025. Thank you so much.
