AHS Guidelines on Respiratory Illnesses and Lice
With students returning to school, it seems like this has brought with it the expected uptick in illness. A few families have reached out and asked for clarifications on CBE policies around this.

I also wanted to include the AHS guidelines for Lice, as a precaution as this is something that is commonplace amongst schools each year. You can find more information on lice here: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Alberta/Pages/how-to-treat-head-lice.aspx
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. Additional questions or concerns can be answered by Alberta HealthLink at 811.

Mark your calendars because Thursday, September 24 is packed with excitement at Sunalta!
Meet the Teacher
Join us for one of our formal teacher presentations at 4:00 -4:30p.m. or 5:00-5:30p.m. Please arrive on time for your chosen session. Afterward, take some time with your child or children to explore the school, visit classrooms, check out the Learning Commons and visit Ms. Irwin in the Music Room, and of course, connect with other Sunalta families.
Family Skate Night
Then, lace up your skates and hit the gym for our Family Skate Night! Families can choose from one of two skating sessions:
- 5:00 - 5:50 p.m.
- 6:00 - 6:50 p.m.
Students, siblings, parents, grandparents, and other family members are all welcome to skate! Student must be accompanied by an adult to attend. Be sure to sign up using the link below to reserve your spot.

School Council Concession
A huge thank you to our amazing School Council for organizing this event! They will also be running a cash-only concession with drinks and pizza (pre-order via the link below.)

Terry Fox Run 2026
Mark your calendars! Our Terry Fox Run is happening on Friday, October 2, 2026, and we'd love for our families to join us!
Come cheer on your child, walk alongside them, or even run the route together. We'll kick off the day with a Terry Fox Assembly in the gym at 11:00 a.m., followed by our run beginning at 11:30 a.m.
🏃 Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, and 3 students will be running laps around the school field.
🏃 Grade 4, 5, and 6 students will take on a course through the Scarboro neighbourhood.
We also need plenty of helping hands! Volunteers are welcome to:
- Count laps
- Help with traffic safety
- Cheer on our runners
- Spread Terry Fox spirit!

After School Art Program at Sunalta School
Spark your child’s creativity this fall with a fun, engaging after‑school art program right at Sunalta School! Young artists will explore drawing, colouring, painting with acrylic on canvas, painting with watercolors, and many fun projects designed to build confidence and creative thinking.
Program Highlights:
- Weekly hands‑on art sessions
- Playful, skill‑building projects for all levels
- A warm, encouraging environment
- All materials provided
Schedule:
- Tuesdays after school until 5 pm.

School Council Updates:
Have you ever wondered what School Council does and how they help make our school community even stronger? Come join us for our first meeting of the year to learn more, share your ideas, and discover ways to support the great work happening at our school. Everyone is welcome, and child minding will be available to make it easier for families to attend. We hope to see you there!
The first School Council meeting of the school will be held on Tuesday, October 13 at 6:00 p.m.
Casino – Volunteers Needed:
The Sunalta School Parents Society will be hosting a casino on October 18 and 19 at Aces Casino Airport (40 Aero Cres NE, Calgary, AB T2E 7Y5). The casino is an important fundraiser for Sunalta School - the money pays for field trips, supplies, and other enrichment activities for all our students.
