“To me, a home is where you feel loved, safe, and cherished.”- Malala Yousafzai

June has been a busy month and continues to have special opportunities for students to share learning experiences and celebrate their achievements this year.

Wishing all of our Sunalta fathers, uncles, grandpas, and caregivers a Happy Father’s Day!

Stampede Breakfast

Thank you to the Stampede Caravan and our Sunalta parent volunteers for making our pancake breakfast a success! Thanks and gratitude to our Sunalta parents: Rosey, Lucia, Lesleigh, Peter, Nataliya, Rizza, Seifer, Georgie, Toya and Oleksandr for preparing tables, serving and cleaning up! Students and families appreciated the delicious gluten free, dairy free pancakes cooked up by Kristi N as well! Almost retired Ms Beeksma was delighted to see community members and show off her handsome grandson. Later she ventured throughout the Sunalta hallways and classrooms to share encouraging thoughts and connect with former students. What a special event!

Telus Spark

Grade 1s spent the day at Telus Spark exploring out-of-this-world science activities. They also took part in a formal activity titled Little Kid Kinetics. Students were able to learn about energy of motion through creative movement and music. Thank you to our volunteers for making this trip possible and Sunalta Council for funding this amazing field trip.

National Indigenous People’s Day and History Month

Sunalta students are engaging in a variety of activities to deepen their understanding and knowledge as part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. On Friday we will have a special assembly to celebrate the beginning of summer solstice and celebrate our land-based learning.

World Refugee Day

Each year on June 20, the world celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

The theme for 2024 World Refugee Week is 'Our Home', which reminds us that home can be more than one place and finding it can be a journey
