Choir and Volunteer Tea
Thanks and gratitude to all of our volunteers! Sunalta staff and students enjoyed pampering our volunteers on Thursday afternoon. Our choir sang some beautiful songs, Mrs Hugh’s class shared a volunteer poem, our staff brought snacks and treats, and several students provided jokes and quotes to create a grateful atmosphere. Thank you to Sunalta School Council Chairs Stacey Selley and Dana Riley for speaking to volunteers about their invaluable contributions to our incredible school! It was a lovely afternoon.
Indigenous Professional Learning
Our staff have been sharing land-based learning experiences with their students to deepen their understanding about indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing. Kaylyn Kodiak, a Metis herbalist, guided Sunalta teachers and support staff on a walk-a-long experience to Shaganappi Park. She shared her knowledge of plant, tree and shrub identification, their medicinal uses in Metis culture, as well as cultural information. In the near future we will be sharing this experience with our students to deepen their understanding of, and respect for, the history and perspectives of Metis culture.
