Volunteer Appreciation!

Sunalta shines bright because of all the parent and family volunteers that assist in enriching our school in every way. From coordinating Healthy Hunger, picking up supplies to support lunches for kids, supervising on field trips, joining class art events such as Clay for Kids and Teachers Pet – when we need volunteers Sunalta parents step up! A huge thanks to Lesleigh and Pete Russell for coordinating Think-a-thon including the classroom prizes and messaging – we raised…. so far! Huge recognition to Rizza P, Raya and Roshan’s mom, for coordinating any volunteer ‘asks’ and being there in a pinch when we really need someone! Thanks to all our school council for their dedication, input, and incredible encouragement as partners in our big plans at Sunalta School. You do so much for us and your pride in our school makes Sunalta the very best place to be! Finally, a special thank you to Dana Riley and Stacey Selley for their work as co-chairs of council. Stacey recently shared the importance of parents supporting schools to make them an amazing place to learn and grow. Instagram link for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet!

Math is Thriving at Sunalta!

We’re excited to share that math is alive and thriving at Sunalta School! This year, 82 students from Grades 4 to 6 stepped up to take part in the Mount Royal Math Challenge, hosted by Mount Royal University. It was a fantastic opportunity for our young mathematicians to stretch their thinking, tackle tricky problems, and have fun with numbers alongside hundreds of students from across the city.

We’re so proud of every student who put themselves out there and gave it their best. Final results will be shared sometime in the next month. Regardless of how well they did, everyone who participated is already a math champion. Way to go, Sunalta! Thanks and gratitude to Ms. Dragatis, Ms. Clarke, and Mrs. Aldridge for supervising!

Outdoor Adventures

All of our classes have been heading outside to look for signs of spring and learn about Indigenous ways of knowing through observation and play. Many have been going over the bridge to visit our city Riparian. Learn More!

Remember to send your child(ren) with good walking shoes, a water bottle, sunscreen and a hat every day. The sun is starting to shine bright!

Farewell and Welcome!

Miss Hillary Wright came for a welcome visit on Thursday to meet her new students. She will be the new Principal at Sunalta School beginning May 5. She is looking forward to learning everyone’s names and starting to build relationships! Mrs. Christine McCrory is moving on to her Windsor Park School adventure with the new school opening in September 2025. She has truly loved supporting teaching and learning at Sunalta School as well as watching students grow as beautiful, joyful and playful people! She hopes everyone continues to read good books with their families, get outside and play, and take time to care for Mother Earth Na’a.

Sunalta would also like to welcome Ms. Johanna Peters, our new music teacher while Ms. Irwin is on leave. She loves to sing and is excited to share the love of music with all of our Sunalta students!

Sports League Playoffs

Our Grade 5 and 6 Sports League is down to the final playoffs! Who will win in the best of 7 Golden Eagles or the …? Thank you to Mr. Barker for organizing, supervising, and encouraging these 60 students throughout the year!

Our School Survey

Sunalta School will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. This anonymous survey is completely voluntary for all CBE students.  CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes.

Hats On for Mental Health

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, Sunalta School will be taking part in Hats on for Mental Health. Students are encouraged to wear a hat on this day. It could be a baseball cap, toque or something a little more unusual. I wonder how creative our amazing students can be with their hat choices.
