Weekly Update Nov. 6-10 | Clubs, Volunteers, Remembrance Day Assembly, Grade 3&6 Assembly, Drumheller, November Break
Everyone has value, everyone belongs and everyone has a right to a good education" (Edmee Comstock, Métis Elder, October 2023).
Leadership Club
Ms Macaulay and Ms McCrory had the first leadership club meeting on Monday. 26 students joined us to discuss the role of the leadership team and had a conversation about ‘what makes Sunalta a great place to learn’. We believe listening to students about their school community and finding ways to create inclusive places and spaces makes a school even better. Students will also be providing input on our Ecoschools project and school spirit days.
Reading Volunteers
If you are interested in supporting students in learning to read, please consider coming to our tutoring training session on Tuesday, November 7. Please contact Ms Larysa Hart lahart@cbe.ab.ca for more information.
Remembrance Day Assembly
Our annual Remembrance Day Assembly will be hosted by our incredible Grade 2s. It starts promptly at 10:30am on Wednesday, December 8. Everyone is welcome and community participation makes this very important event even more meaningful. Please come to the parking lot doors for entry to the school.
Grade 3 and 6 Assembly
Thanks and gratitude to our Grade 3 and 6 classrooms as well as our music teacher, Ms Irwin and tech teacher Mr Masuch for an energetic and exciting assembly on Tuesday. The grade 6 students shared very interesting perspective photos. Grade 3s played instruments and sang spooky songs to make the day delightful! Thanks and gratitude to our Pumpkinella parent set-up team for organizing our creative, carved pumpkin patch!

Drumheller Trip
Our Grade 4 students attended an exciting overnight trip to Drumheller to take part in the Royal Tyrrell Museum experience. Students learned about the work of a paleontologist and discovered many interesting things through exhibits and a focus on fossils. Learning about our geophysical history has many connections to our current world and issues that matter on a global basis. Thanks and gratitude to Ms Aldridge and Mr Castle for taking the students, as well as many parent volunteers that agreed to stay overnight with the dinosaurs…and children!

Clubs
Running Club, Orff Music Club, and Sports Club continue.
Staffing
We want to welcome a new teacher to Sunalta. Ms Sarah MacDonald has been hired to support our students learning English as an additional language, teaching French to grades 4-6, and supporting new curriculum. We also want to wish Ms. Chris Acton all the best as she has taken another position at another school. We will miss her generosity, kind and caring relationships with students and staff, and diligently supporting children to be their best.
Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!
