Weekly Update Sept. 18-22 | Terry Fox, Meet the Teacher, Planters, Healthy Hunger, Orange Shirt Day Event

Terry Fox Run

Sunalta students and staff took part in the Terry Fox run today after a motivating assembly hosted by the Grade 5 students in Ms Dragatis and Mr Barker’s class. Several students shared their personal writing based on the prompt, “If I could talk to Terry Fox…” and described him as a brave, strong, courageous and determined Canadian that has helped millions of people all over the world. Thank you to our parent volunteers for assisting with the run, our ‘motivational pace bunnies’ for keeping spirits up, and families for sending in donations. Several students shared that they brought their own money to support cancer research. There is an opportunity to donate online and receive a tax receipt https://schools.terryfox.ca/Sunalta

Eric Walters

Our Grade 4, 5, and 6 students were delighted to meet and hear Canadian author Eric Walters present on Monday morning. This was a motivational experience aimed to empower students to connect their ideas through writing. He described how his experiences, such as working with children in Kenya, learning about African animals, and being passionate about basketball provided the background for his novels. www.ericwalters.net Thank you to our Sunalta council for funding this experience.

Planters

Students are thrilled to see vegetables and flowers growing in our new planters provided by Sunalta council. There are many learning connections and opportunities for discussion, especially with the new K-3 science curriculum.

Healthy Hunger

Healthy hunger is a fun lunch option that is delivered approximately every second Wednesday www.healthyhunger.ca to sign up. Please note we are not able to keep any lunches overnight if students are absent (however you can coordinate for the lunch to be picked up). Thank you to our parent volunteers for their help.

School Swag: Next week the ‘online school store’ will be open for families interested in purchasing sweatshirts or t-shirts. Link will be sent when it is live.
